Anthony Benedetto was born in Astoria, Queens in New York City. He grew up listening to Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, and jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden and Joe Venuti. An uncle was a tap dancer in vaudeville, giving him an early window to the world of entertainment.

At 10 years old Benedetto was already singing, appearing at the Triborough Bridge. He studied at the High School of Industrial Art in New York, both music and painting (an interest that always return his adult life), he abandoned his studies at 16 years of age to help his family financially. Then he devoted his professional career in music, playing in many Italian restaurants in Queens.
