In a nutshell

She may be a product of The Hills, but Whitney Port is not just another Hollywood pretty face. The reality TV star has paved her own way to become a sometime actress, designer and model.
She grew up in the affluent Westside of LA, attending a private liberal arts high school, surrounded by "celebrity kids". She was majoring in gender studies at the University of Southern California when she started working at Teen Vogue and came to fame on the MTV pseudo-reality show The Hills.
The series followed a 'real' group of LA 20-somethings through the minutiae of their fashion-obsessed, overindulged existence in the * Hollywood Hills. It was reality TV in the sense that the characters never acknowledged the camera, but it was edited to look like a drama. Sort of like The Truman Show-meets-The Devil-Wears-Prada-meets-an oestrogen Tsunami.
Unsurprisingly the show was very popular indeed, focusing on the trials and tribulations of Whitney, co-star Lauren Conrad and bitchy friend Heidi Montag in the fashion vacuum of Teen Vogue (later PR fashion company The People's Revolution).
Whitney was the most likeable of the lot and was subsequently rewarded with her own reality spin-off show The City, when she moved to New York to work on fashion label Diane Von Furstenburg and launched her own design line Whitney Eve, which had a runway show during New York Fashion Week in 2009.
While the sun is setting on The Hills (which recently ran its last series), things are due to hot up for Whitney since MTV announced another season of The City in 2010.
If this isn't enough to rub her ex co-stars faces in it, Whitney also has reached the epitome of fame where she is due to release an 'advice book' True Whit, for young women having their 'quarter-life crisis' (which doesn't include a chapter on plastic surgery, go figure).
