In a nutshell

Rachel first hit the charts as part of the pop group S Club 7 way back in 1999 after they starred in their own (pretty awful) CBBC show, Miami 7. They took off 'big style' and eventually sold around 16 million records around the world.
The band split in 2003 and, as always, there's one or two who think they can trade on former glories and launch solo careers. Rachel was one of these folk and signed a multi-album deal and had a reasonable hit with her first single, Sweet Dreams My LA Ex. Yes, that's the one. Remember dancing to it?
The next single flopped and so Rachel decided to take a little break before wowing everybody with the brilliant Some Girls, produced by Richard X. She followed with some other decent singles which, despite getting really positive reviews, just didn't really sell. We think it might have something to do with the fact that fans couldn't connect with her. No personality. That sort of thing.
So when your music career doesn't work out as planned, what do you do? Celebrity Big Brother, of course!!
Hang on, no. That was the other one from S Club. The one with the white hair. Umm
Rachel actually took the high road and signed to appear on Strictly Come Dancing in the 2008 series. She actually did really well and achieved the most perfect 10 scores ever. She ended in second place and looked lovely in all of those glittery dresses etc.
We were SHOCKED to read that clean living Rachel was caught in a hail of gunfire while dining in a London restaurant in June 2009. It turns out that two men stormed into the restaurant and started shooting at each other. How random.
That incident actually followed a robbery, which saw Rachel's jewellery being stolen by three men who watched her until she made her way home. She was shaken but unhurt.
