Miley Cyrus Biography

In a nutshell

Born in 1992 Miley is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. She was christened Destiny Hope but was given the nickname for her propensity to smile all the time as a young child. (Perhaps she was thinking of all the money she was destined to earn.)
Miley was fame-hungry from a tender age, first starring in her father's TV series "Doc" as well as a role in Tim Burton's film Big Fish. But she is best known for her starring role as Hannah Montana from the Disney series, which propelled her into teen-superstardom and prompted 'Miley Mania' amongst a global pubescent audience.
Life imitated art when a number of Hannah Montana spin-off albums pushed smiley Miley toward being a pop star in her own right and she released her self-styled debut solo album 'Meet Miley Cyrus' in 2007.
She since became seemingly keen to shed her chaste Disney-branded image, releasing a second studio album in 2008 tellingly entitled 'Breakout' and dumping boyfriend and Purity Ring proponent Nick Jonas of the Jonas brothers (another wholesome Disney incarnation).
Later that year she also posed topless for a controversial Vanity Fair shoot by Annie Leibovitz prompting condemnation from conservative quarters. However there's no such thing as bad publicity and the incident only increased revenue for the Miley franchise, which was now earning her slightly more pocket money than your average 16 year old ? something along the region of $25 a year.
Proving there's no such thing as solvency in Hollywood, Miley then went on to launch a film career starring in Hannah Montana: The Movie and coming-of-age saga The Last Song (released 2010). She then penned an obligatory celebrity autobiography, recounting her life at the ripe-old age of sweet sixteen entitled 'Miles to Go' (many miles and dollar signs, we're sure).
In 2010 she released her third studio album 'Can't be Tamed' whose title-track video aroused some media criticism because it featured her strutting around in leather, a somewhat mixed message from an 17 year old evangelical Christian. But then again it didn't do Britney any harm did it? Oh.
Miley is currently filming the fourth and final series for Hannah Montana and was recently quoted as wanting to concentrate on a film career (despite tepid reviews for her role in the Last Song) and is set to star in three more films in 2010 alone.
