NBA career as an assistant coach
He began his coaching career in 1992 in the NBA as an assistant to Dan Issel at the Denver Nuggets, later, first as a video coordinator, scout. In 1997 he signed with the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff. In 1999, he was then chief scout with the Washington Wizards. In 2000, he was under Gregg Popovich assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs.
He was also the head coach of the NBA summer league teams in Boston and Salt Lake City. After he won with the San Antonio Spurs 2003 Finals, he became the assistant to Rick Carlisle in Indiana Pacers. NBA career as a head coach
In June 2005 he replaced Brendan Malone as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers , and thus he was the second youngest head coach in the NBA. In 2007 he led the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James for the first time in franchise history in the NBA Finals. There, they lost 0-4 against the San Antonio Spurs. In 2008, Mike Brown, Eastern Conference coach of the month of January and coached the East All-Star team.
He was the second Cleveland Cavaliers coach after Lenny Wilkens, who was allowed to coach the All-Star team. In the 2008-09 season, Brown was honored with the NBA Coach of the Year Award.
