Kym is one of those local lasses done good. She gave 10000%, she worked her way up, she used to do the working men's clubs... you know, all of those clich?s they use on reality TV shows.
Kym first hit the screens on ITV's 'Popstars'. It was before Pop Idol, before X Factor, before all of the others. So try and think back if you can.
The winning group, hear'say, featured Kym and a few other people who were regularly slagged off for not looking very pretty and having rubbish songs.
But that didn't diminish their early popularity and Kym scored success with their singles and album. But all good things must come to an end.
Kym left hear'say in 2002 before taking the wise (!!) decision to launch a solo career. After a couple of top 10 singles things took a turn for the worse and her record company assigned her to the 'dropped' category.
As you do when you're trying to make ends meet, you sign up for pretty much anything. Kym took a presenting job on Loose Women, had a bit-part in daytime soap Doctors, had a bit-part in evening soap Holby City, had a bit-part in late-night soap Hollyoaks... you get the idea.
Kym vanished for a while but must have impressed the bosses at Coronation Street ? they cast her as feisty single mum Michelle and she hasn't looked back since.
