In 1994 she received at the age of eleven years, the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the drama film The Piano and was the second youngest Oscar winner ever. She gained notoriety but mainly by the X-Men movies and the series True Blood. Paquin has been nominated five times for a Golden Globe.

Paquin was born in Winnipeg, Canada. Her mother is an English teacher, her father, a sports teacher. She has an older brother named Andrew (1977) and an older sister named Katya (1980). Her childhood was spent mostly in New Zealand, after her parents divorced in 1995 she moved with her mother to Los Angeles.

She played as a child viola, cello and piano and took ballet lessons. After her graduation in 2000 she studied for a year at Columbia University, but then decided on an acting career.
Her acting career began in 1991 in New Zealand, as the director Jane Campion, a young actress for the drama The Piano was looking for. Paquin’s sister Katya went to an ad in a newspaper to audition.Anna Paquin was originally only as an accompaniment, but was then hired for the role. She sat down so that by about 5000 candidates.

The film was awarded an international success and Paquin for her role in the Oscar as best supporting actress. It is to Tatum O’Neal, the second youngest ever awarded this prize an actress. Then she had not initially plan to become an actress and rejected new roles.
Finally in 1996 she was again seen as a young Jane Eyre in the same film. In the same year she played the lead role in the drama of Amy and the geese. To again, she managed worldwide fame in 2000 for her role in the comic book movie X-Men, in which she played the mutant Rogue. In 2003 she again played the Rogue in X-Men 2 and repeated the role in 2006 in the third part X-Men: The Last Stand. For her work on the TV movie Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee in 2007 she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award.
Since 2008, Paquin plays the main role in the vampire series True Blood. The series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris. For this role, she was awarded the 2009 Golden Globe for best series, lead actress and was also nominated in this category in 2010.
Another success on television they had in 2009 with the title role of the film The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler, which also earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe. 2010, she starred alongside Katie Holmes in the comedy The Romantics and has a cameo in Scream 4 over.
