He initially studied classical violin, but after eight years he became interested in bluegrass fiddle, and began playing at parties and festivals and won several awards. In addition to his virtuosity on the violin, soon caught the attention of the critical voice of soprano. In 1985 he published his first recordings on the album Different Strokes, a collection of songs played bluegrass and folk as well as for her, by her brother Viktor, Jim Hoiles, and Bruce Weiss.

That same year, telling her fourteen years, signed a contract with Rounder Records label, specializes in traditional music of the United States, which in 1987 released Too Late to Cry, her first solo album, which was a great success. This album won the seventh annual American Music Awards Association (AMA), held at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, with awards for Best Album and Best duo / group of the season and also took the award for Best Country Collaboration Grammy Awards 2008 with the song “Killing The Blues.”
