In a nutshell

The surly, straight-talking Brummie and former co-presenter of The One Show has reached National Treasure status in the hearts of the viewing public. Not bad for a scaffolder's son from Worcestershire.
The football-mad presenter had a varied career path (including amateur theatre and applying for M15) before he joined the BBC in what would be a long and fruitful trajectory (till he defected to ITV of course).
He began presenting Radio 4 show Financial World Tonight and going to on to front his own Radio 5 Live show 'Chiles on Saturday'.
Some might say Adrian has a face for radio (comedian Stewart Lee once retorted that watching him on The One Show is 'like being trapped in the buffet car of a slow-moving express train with a Toby jug').
However BBC bigwigs clearly didn't agree and promoted him to front what would be a ten year stint presenting BBC Two business show Working Lunch. Clearly not the most exciting job in the world but his doggedness paid off, as he was eventually picked to front new BBC topical teatime magazine programme The One Show.
Here he went through two female co-presenters (Julia Sawalha and Myleene Klass) before hitting celluloid gold with Christine Bleakly. Together they pulled in over five million viewers each evening with their inimitable blend of beauty-meets-beast magic.
Though they didn't initially get along (he thought she was 'dippy' and she though he was 'a miserable old fart') their on-screen chemistry lead to speculations about alleged off-screen shenanigans, especially since his ten-year marriage broke down around the same time. The two are just good friends though, as the saying goes.
But the end of the real love affair was between him and the BBC. When they drafted in Chris Evans to revamp the show, a jilted Chiles went to ITV for comfort... and got it. He was confirmed as the new presenter of impending ITV morning show Daybreak. And co-presenter Christine even followed him over; how's that for a coup d'?tat?
