Tim McGraw is the son of the famous baseball player Tug McGraw. He grew up in Start, Louisiana and was interested in both music and sports. After leaving school he joined the Northeast Louisiana University to study law. But his life was increasingly dominated by the country music. In 1987 he appeared regularly in clubs.
In 1989, he interrupted his studies and moved to Nashville. Two years later he signed with Curb Records a record deal. His first single, Welcome to the Club reached 1993, a middle place in the country charts. His debut album Tim McGraw appeared 1993rd The breakthrough came a year later with his second album Not a Moment to Soon.
The single release Indian Outlaw sparked controversy and was banned by some radio stations, but could put in the front of the hit parade. The second single from the album Do not Take the Girl became his first No. 1 hit and placed in the top 20 of Pophitparade. The album has sold over three million copies and won three times platinum.
