Harris grew up in the small town of Ruidoso in the vicinity of Albuquerque, where he played in the school play. In 1988 his parents came back to Albuquerque, in the same year he made his debut in the film drama Clara mystery in which he played the young David Hart, for the housekeeper Clara Mayfield (Whoopi Goldberg) to a surrogate mother is.
