James McAvoy Profile Biography – Biographyzone.com. James Andrew McAvoy (born April 21, 1979 in Glasgow)  is a Scottish actor. James McAvoy was raised with his sister Joy, near to Drumchapel Glasgow (Scotland, United Kingdom), by his maternal grandparents, following the divorce of his parents when he was only seven years . His mother often lived with them, but it was no longer in contact with his father since his childhood.  As a child he worked in a bakery. He was a member of PACE Youth Theatre, alongside singer Paolo Nutini. He studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and graduated in 2000.

James appeared for the first time on a big screen in the role of Kevin Savage in the film The Near Room in 1995 and the role of Anthony Balfour in the film Regeneration in 1997. Subsequently, he had roles in the series Band of Brothers (2001), in the film Bollywood Queen (2002) and in the TV serial State of Play – Play (2003).
James was known to the public through the role of Leto Atreides II in the series Children of Dune (based on Frank Herbert’s novels) which aired in the U.S. in 2003. The same year he played in the first film as director, Stephen Fry, Bright Young Things. He then played in the British TV series Shameless, and in the romantic comedy The greatest victory (Wimbledon). In 2004, he played Rory O’Shea, an Irish teenager with muscular dystrophy in the film Inside I’m Dancing.

In 2005, he held the role of Tumnus in the film adaptation of fantasy novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe C. S. Lewis. In 2006 he starred alongside Gillian Anderson and Forest Whitaker in an adaptation of a novel by Giles Foden, The Last King of Scotland (The Last King of Scotland), directed by Kevin Macdonald. The film is based on events that occurred during the 1970s under the regime of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin Dada.
In 2008 he was nominated as best actor Golden Globe and BAFTA American in London, for his performance (sober and inhabited) by Robbie Turner in Atonement. He received an award from the London Film Critics Circle Awards, as British Actor of the Year.
The director immediately thought of him to embody Robbie Turner. For his part, James McAvoy has admitted that this role was one of the toughest he has ever performed. In the same year he played Wesley Gibson in Wanted: Choose your destiny. He plays alongside Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.
