Member of the Democratic Party, expressed his pro-choice positions on abortion and against stem cell research. He is in favor of the increase in the minimum wage. Staunch supporter of renewable energy, has voted to repeal any kind of subsidy to big oil companies.

Part of the New Democrat Coalition and the Blue Dog Coalition. In 2005, after the serious damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, the Giffords went to Houston to personally offer his help as a volunteer. He then recounted his experience at the “Tucson Citizen”.
In the mid-term elections, held in November 2010, the Giffords won measuring against the Republican candidate Jesse Kelly, supported by the Tea Party.
She is married to astronaut Mark Kelly, commander of STS-134 Space Shuttle, whose launch has been postponed until May 16, 2011. It is also the first Jewish representative elected from Arizona.
On 8 January 2011, the deputy was seriously wounded by a gunshot exploded during a rally in Tucson, Arizona. She was hospitalized at University Medical Center. In the shootout, triggered by Jared Loughner, a young man of 22 years, six people were killed – including the conservative judge, appointed by George Bush (father), John Roll, who had previously received death threats – and several others were wounds.
