In a nutshell

Starting life as Sean Dermot Fintan Jr (now there's a mouthful if ever we heard one), Sean Dermot Fintan Jr (yep, still a mouthful) was surprisingly born in Colchester, Essex. That's right ? there wasn't a rolling green hill of Ireland in sight! We're slightly disappointed by that...
So, like many others before him (and probably a lot more to come), Dermot O'Leary studied media at University. Fortunately for him he managed to be one of the lucky few who broke through into the mainstream, presenting T4 on Sunday mornings. He could claim to be the man who gave the strand its cult status, getting girls ? and boys ? swooning at the TV while they nursed their hangovers. Move aside, Steve Jones!
The world of Big Brother really showcased Dermot's talents. The producer and host of spin-off show Big Brother's Little Brother, Dermot poked fun at the housemates, welcomed celebrity guests and generally earned his place as one of the best presenters on offer. Unlike Davina McCall he decided to leave the show in 2007 after Simon Cowell offered him the role of presenter of The X Factor. Although he initially juggled the two roles, The X Factor's mammoth schedule meant he had to eventually ditch BB.
A massive music fan, Dermot is also a presenter on BBC Radio 2.
Dermot isn't particularly open about his personal life despite a high level of interest from fans and the media. However it's known that he's been dating his girlfriend, Dee Koppang, for around 5 years. But still no sign of an engagement..
