Anna Paquin Biography

In a nutshell

Born in Canada, Anna is the youngest of three children and quickly stood out as the mini-actress in the family. At the age of 4, Anna moved to New Zealand and it seemed she was a pretty musical child ? playing the viola, cello and piano.
She was in New Zealand for most of her childhood until, after the divorce of her parents, she moved with her mother to Los Angeles.
You'll probably know that Anna was quite the film star even way back in 1991. While she was still back in New Zealand, Anna saw a newspaper advert which was looking for a girl to play the lead role in the film The Piano. After meeting with the director and reading through some of the script, Anna was chosen to star. The film was released two years later, in 1993, and went down a storm with critics. It was so good, in fact, that Anna ended up being the second-youngest ever winner of an Oscar; she was presented with the award for Best Supporting Actress in 1993.
Anna ? quite understandably ? took a break from acting but broke back into the mainstream with her role as Rogue in the 2000 film, X-Men. She reprised her role for the sequels.
One of Anna's best, and most recent, roles has been in the hit HBO series, True Blood. Starting in 2008, the show is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels.
In it, Anna takes on the role of Sookie Stackhouse. Without giving too much away if you haven't seen it (YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT? GO AND WATCH IMMEDIATELY AND DON'T COME BACK UNTIL YOU HAVE!) Sookie becomes involved with a vampire called Bill Compton ? who, in a strange but fantastic twist ? is played by her real life partner Stephen Moyer.
Although she's busy with the TV show, Anna is still working on several other projects. 2010 should see a release for romantic comedy The Romantics, in which she stars alongside Katie Holmes and Liv Tyler.
