Nicole Kidman Biography

In a nutshell

Aaah, the first surprise in the Kidman tale. She's not 'properly' Australian! Born in Hawaii to her biochemist father, Antony and mother, Janelle Ann, she returned to Australia aged 4.
Although starring in early films, her career really took off when she starred in 'Dead Calm', followed in 1990 alongside Tom Cruise in 'Days of Thunder' (more on that later) and in 1995's 'Batman Forever'.
In 2002, Nicole received an Academy Award for her role in the musical 'Moulin Rouge!' in which she starred alongside Ewan McGregor. She was supposed to star in 'Panic Room' but injured her ribs during the filming of 'Moulin Rouge!', so Jodie Foster took the lead role instead. If you're a movie nerd, however, you might like to know that you can hear Kidman's voice on the phone as the mistress of the husband of the lead character.
Although best known for movies, Nicole has had a bit of success in the charts, too. She collaborated with Robbie Williams on his number 1 Christmas single, 'Somethin' Stupid'. There were even reports of the pair hitting it off in 'other' ways too, although from what we know of Robbie , he'd try it on with any woman with a pulse. With 'Moulin Rouge!' being a musical, she managed to score another hit duet with her co-star Ewan McGregor by releasing 'Come What May' as featured in the film. It managed a respectable chart placing of 27.
Kidman's most famous relationship was like a tale of little and large. That's right, she was married to Tom Cruise from 1990 until their separation in 2001. They met on the set of 'Days of Thunder' and during the course of their relationship adopted two children. There was never any real public reason for their divorce, although it has been rumoured that Tom was incredibly jealous of Nicole's height, or something...
