In a nutshell

She's most famous for playing Bella Swan in the Twilight Saga (and thus incurring the wrath of millions of Robert Pattison groupies worldwide) but there's more to this actress than her vampire-loving credentials suggest.
She was born to parents already in the business (her dad is a TV producer and her mother a script supervisor) so it is perhaps unsurprising than young Kristen's acting career started before she'd even reached double figures.
Her breakthrough role was in 2002's Panic Room as an 11 year old who becomes dangerously ill after being locked in the aforementioned 'panic room' with on-screen mom Jodie Foster for too long (well, who could blame her?)
Since then Kristen has starred in a whopping 20 feature films including Sean Penn's critically acclaimed Into The Wild (2007). But it was only when she became the on-screen love interest of a particularly handsome vampire that her profile sky-rocketed.
The incredibly successful Twilight Saga based on the novels by Stephanie Meyer, propelled Kristen and her fellow co-stars into worldwide fame and groupie mania. Twilight fans are renowned for being particularly zealous, and Kristen recently admitted to feeling nervous about her exposure and relative vulnerability during red carpet premieres.
Interestingly at the Kristen and co. recently failed to show at the London premiere of the vampire franchise's third instalment The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in July 2010. Faced with an oestrogen-tsunami of scantily-clad Pattison groupies at such events, we cannot perhaps blame her for giving it a miss. (Still, being recently named number 66 on the Forbes Most Powerful Celebrities list is surely some consolation.)
Perhaps eager to shake the vampire shtick, Kristen has branched out in film roles most recently in biopic The Runaways, portraying 70s rock star Joan Jett to critical acclaim.
However Stephanie Meyer is seemingly the JK Rowling of Vampire epics, as her fourth book Breaking Dawn is rumoured to be in motion for a two-part film release in 2011. There's obviously no rest for the blood-sucking Hollywood machine at any rate.
Despite her acting credentials, Kristen has frequented expressed a desire to go behind the scenes as a writer, and even go back to college to study literature. But not for a while ? as she is due to reprise her role as Bella in the upcoming 4th Twilight instalment Breaking Dawn.
