Became rich as a lawyer, although he specialized in defending the poorest individuals against large lobby and American majors: in particular, was particularly interested in medical malpractice. Married to Elizabeth Edwards, she had four children: the eldest son, Wade, died at age 17 in 1996 because of an accident, the boy’s death was the spring that prompted him to reflect on hiscareer as a lawyer and to enter into policy with the Democratic Party.

Centrist tendencies, very open as to the rights of the LGBT community, he ran in North Carolina as a senator of the United States after having triumphed in the Democratic primary, defeated Republican incumbent Lauch Faircloth and 6 January 1999 he began his political experience.

In the Senate was in favor of the resolution authorizing U.S. intervention in Iraq but accused the Bush administration of failing to manage the conflict. 2004 Presidential

In 2004 he announced not to seek second term as Senator (gave way to Erskine Bowles, but this was not elected) and of wanting to nominate for president of the United States, but Kerry was to prevail.

On July 6, 2004 Kerry announced he had chosen Edwards as his running vice president of the U.S. Democratic convention in pre-election, Edwards became quite famous saying the famous speech of “Two Americas: an increasingly rich, the other increasingly marginalized” after which the opponents populism while supporters compare him to speaking skills, Mario Cuomo.
