David Duchovny was born to a Jewish father of Russian origin and a Protestant mother of Scottish descent. They divorced the year that David celebrates eleven years. It is a very shy and reserved child, which amuse her brother who likes to believe he is mentally retarded. Yet this is not the case, and David is destined to education and obtained a degree in English literature at Princeton University and an MA at Yale University where he became interested in drama . It appears in some local parts.
Career
Then a friend convinced him to audition for a commercial touting a beer and he gets the role. Happy with his experience on camera, he decided to quit school and embark on an acting career in 1987. Through advertising, some producers take notice and offer him roles in movies like When women get involved (Working Girl, 1988), Denial (1991), Beethoven (1992) and other films, but also a role in the popular series Twin Peaks, where he acts as a transvestite detective. In 1993 can be seen alongside Brad Pitt in Kalifornia.

His career finally took off in 1993, thanks to the role of Fox Mulder in the series The X-Files. In 2004, he produced and directed the film House of D.
He returned to television in 2007 as an actor and producer in the series Californication, where he plays a New York writer in exile in California, lack of inspiration and separated from his wife. For this role, he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy 2008.
Private life
From 1993 to 1995, his girlfriend is the actress Perrey Reeves (Entourage (TV series)), which appears alongside him in an episode of Season 2 X-Files.
May 5, 1997, he married, at the Grae Church in Manhattan, with the lead actress of the sitcom The Naked Truth, Téa Leoni. From this union were born two children: a daughter, Madelaine West (April 24, 1999) and a son, Kyd Miller (June 15, 2002). At the end of the seventh season of The X-Files, David decided to leave the series to concentrate on his family life and cinema. October 15, 2008, David and Téa confirm that they have separated after the eleven years of marriage. In June 2009, David and Téa were seen together and in different interviews confirm dated September 2009, they have reconciled. In December of that year, David and his wife came together to “UNICEF Snowflake,” proving that they form again a couple .
Since 2002, several rumors about his membership in Scientology. While it has never openly spoke to the press, he made a critical one episode of Californication.
