It's hard to pin down what Chris Tarrant is most famous for. Is it his radio breakfast show, which ran for several years, beating most of the competition? Is it Tiswas, the infamous children's show, or perhaps Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, the quiz show which became a worldwide smash...?
Son of a biscuit factory-managing director, Chris Tarrant started off cheekily writing to TV companies proclaiming he was the face of the 1970's and they'd be mad not to snap him up. Before long he was starting to work shifts at a radio station in Birmingham. But the really memorable break was his Tiswas show, co-hosted by Lenny Henry and Sally James.
He was the king of London's airwaves between 1987 and 2004, presenting the Capital Radio breakfast show, where he won the Sony Radio Award for Best Breakfast Show in 1995.
Chris's first marriage broke down but he eventually re-married, to Ingrid Dupre. However, you'll probably know by now that this too has ended in tears ? plenty of tabloid revelations about his private life saw to that. The pair finally settled things up in April 2008.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, the hugely successful ITV quiz show, made Chris a true household name. But it was his catchphrase, 'Is that your final answer?' which really caught on. Mind you, it became annoying after a while, right?
Despite plenty of half-decent TV work, who could forget the Saturday evening entertainment hit, Man-O-Man, which saw 'hunky' male contestants pushed into a pool of water for not performing to standard in a series of games.
