Cerys Matthews Biography

In a nutshell

Cerys is that gravelly-voiced singer you might know from her band Catatonia. She was born in Cardiff and, during school, was teased because of her high voice. Aww, poor thing. She had the last laugh etc etc.
After working for a bit as a nanny in Barcelona, Cerys decided to move back to the UK where she met Mark Roberts with whom she eventually formed the band Catatonia. Success = moderate.
In the Britpop era which everyone keeps going on about there were the likes of Pulp, Oasis and Blur knocking out the hits and then there was Catatonia, managing to grab a few chart hits along the way too. Remember X Files-inspired Mulder and Scully? That was alright. Road Rage was pretty decent too. And then, well, they split up in 2001. Nobody mourned.
After a little stint in rehab (which any 'proper' popstar has to do) Cerys released a debut album which became an underground success (ie, didn't sell very many copies)
She's got two children, named ? wait for it ? Glenys Pearl Y-Felin and Johnny Tupelo Jones. When Cerys got married she arrived at the ceremony not in a fancy long pink limo but ? in Welsh countryside style ? in a tractor. Genius!
Any self-respecting, failing popstar should go on I'm A Celeb and Cerys in no exception. And so she did. On the show she flickered her eye-lashes at ex-EastEnder Mark Bannerman.
