In a nutshell

You might think this talented young girl only became famous from her starring role in one of the best TV shows of our generation, Ugly Betty. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Aged 8, she started acting in school plays but she completed her first TV movie, 'Gotta Kick It Up!', airing on The Disney Channel a few years later.
For such a young age, Ferrera has won an incredible string of awards. A 2007 Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award are just two of the most prestigious, while Time magazine named her in their list of most influential people in the world.
Not bad, eh?
With Hispanic roots, Fererra's parents hail from Honduras and she was brought up as the youngest of six siblings. She's been congratulated as being a good role model for young Hispanics by the US House of Representatives, too.
If you haven't heard of Ugly Betty then we think you've been missing out. Fererra played Betty, the dishevelled employee of Mode magazine who finds herself in all sorts of romantic and, let's be honest, camp events as her life develops. Just watch out for those braces and bushy eyebrows...
